How to Build a Personal Music Quiz with WhatsSong

WhatsSong music quiz with colorful letter tiles and headphones

A good music quiz needs a mix of quick wins and songs that make you listen twice. WhatsSong plays a clip, turns the title into scrambled letter tiles, and lets you create and save your own song quizzes in a personal library.

Start with a clear theme

Pick one idea for each set: songs from one decade, a single genre, movie soundtracks, or tracks your group knows from a shared trip. A narrow theme makes a difficult title feel fair because players know where to search in their memory.

Mix familiar songs with deep cuts

Begin with a title most players can recognize, then add less obvious tracks. If every answer is easy, the round ends too quickly. If every answer is obscure, the letter puzzle becomes guesswork.

Let the scrambled letters do some of the work

WhatsSong asks players to arrange letter tiles into the title before time runs out. Longer titles and repeated letters naturally add difficulty, even when the clip is familiar.

Use hints after one more listen

A hint reveals a letter. Try listening once more before using one, then reveal a letter when the title is still just out of reach. This keeps the puzzle moving without giving away the whole answer.

Build a personal library

Create and save custom songs in your personal library so a practice set can focus on the music you actually care about. The custom songs stay local and are not shared publicly.

Use the leaderboard as a long-term goal

After a few rounds, compare your score with the global all-time leaderboard. A personal set can help you practise tricky titles before returning to broader challenges.
